Label offline wallets before you trust the math
Why duplicate device nicknames quietly break rebalance worksheets for self-custody reserve positions.
During inventory sessions we still meet pairs of devices both called “travel unit” or “backup.” When those names land on a rebalance worksheet, move sizes attach to the wrong line.
A naming habit that holds
Use a place and a colour: “Tsuen Wan charcoal,” “office steel,” “safe blue.” Write the same string on a paper tag and on the offline wallet tracker page. Avoid numbering alone — numbers drift when you retire a device.
What we refuse to invent
If you cannot tell which device is which without unlocking it, we pause the worksheet. Guessing is cheaper to fix during inventory than after a transfer.
Carry it into the next review
Bring the tagged devices and the same tracker pages. Continuity of labels is half the value of an offline practice for self-custody reserve positions.
